Imagine a nation where the voices of bold, pioneering women echo across every corner of America. The words of the first women who ran for president are heard aloud – challenging, inspiring, and calling us to action. That’s the vision of the Good Lazy Woman: Election 2024 Edition!
That’s why we’re calling on you. Between now and November 5, 2024, we’re working to have these groundbreaking women’s words read aloud across all 50 states – in theaters, libraries, classrooms, and homes. More than honoring their legacy, we recognize the power of ambition, the weight of resistance, and the hope for a future where gender equality isn’t just a dream – it’s a reality.
For too long, the stories of women in politics – their ambitions, struggles, and triumphs – have been overlooked or silenced. But these women broke barriers, fought prejudice, and dared to lead in a world that said, “You can’t.” These women faced tremendous obstacles, from Victoria Woodhull, who ran for president in 1872, to Shirley Chisholm, who became the first Black woman to seek the presidency in 1972. And yet, they stood tall, paving the way for future generations.
But here’s the question: Why haven’t we seen a woman in the Oval Office yet? Why, in 2024, does America still struggle with the idea of female leadership? The answer is woven into the history of every woman who has ever dared to run, and it’s time we heard their stories. Read about them in history books and feel their words in our hearts and minds, homes, schools, and communities.
This isn’t just for women – this is for everyone. Because a democracy that leaves half its citizens on the sidelines is a democracy in peril. Gender-expansive participation in politics isn’t just about fairness – it’s about making our country stronger, more just, and more reflective of the people here.
We’re not asking for much – just your voice. Host a reading in your community! Amplify these voices in your community. And when you do, know that you are part of a national chorus that says, loud and clear, “Women can lead.”
Let’s make history by lifting the voices of the women who have fought for it. Join us – together, we can change the narrative.
